Cameras & recording

How many cameras do I need?

It depends on the property and what you want to see, not a rule of thumb. Most homes land around four to eight to cover doors, driveway, and yard approaches with the overlap that actually catches an event. We map it at the walkthrough and tell you honestly where another camera earns its place.

Indoor or outdoor cameras — what's the difference?

Outdoor cameras are weather- and glare-rated to run through heat, rain, and a dark night; indoor cameras can be smaller and more discreet because they aren't fighting the elements. We pick per location rather than one model everywhere, so each camera suits where it sits.

How long is footage kept?

As long as the storage you choose allows. Retention trades off camera count, resolution, and drive size — we size the drive to the number of days you want to look back, and the oldest footage rolls off automatically once it's full.

More in our guide: How much recording storage does a camera system actually need?

Can I view the cameras on my phone?

Yes. Every system is set up with a mobile app so you can watch the live view and play back recorded footage from anywhere. We configure the remote access securely so your feed reaches you without leaving the recorder exposed.

Do the cameras record audio?

Some can, and whether that's appropriate depends on placement and Texas law on recording conversations. We set audio to match what's sensible and legal for each location, and talk it through at the walkthrough rather than leaving it on by default.

What internet do the cameras need?

Recording happens locally on the NVR or DVR and keeps working even if your internet drops. Internet is only needed for remote viewing on your phone, and a normal home connection is plenty — the app streams on demand rather than uploading everything.

What's the difference between an NVR and a DVR?

An NVR records network (IP) cameras, usually powered over the same cable that carries the video. A DVR records HD analog cameras over coax, which makes it the natural upgrade when a building already has coax runs. They aren't interchangeable — every camera kit we sell pairs cameras with the recorder that actually records them.

Buying & shipping

How do I pay?

By card, online, through Stripe. You enter your card on Stripe's own secure page — your card number never reaches our site. We don't offer cash on delivery.

Do you charge sales tax?

Orders delivered to a Texas address are charged Texas sales tax at 8.25% — the 6.25% state rate plus 2% local — on the hardware subtotal plus shipping, because Texas taxes the delivery charge on taxable goods. Tax is shown as its own line before you pay. Orders delivered outside Texas aren't charged Texas sales tax.

Where do you ship, and what does shipping cost?

We ship to all 50 states and DC, from Dallas–Fort Worth. You pay the shipping at the carrier's live rate: at checkout we compare UPS, FedEx and USPS for your cart and address and show the cheapest carrier for each speed. There's no flat table and no free-shipping threshold, and the price you see is the price you pay.

How long will delivery take?

Dispatch is normally 1–3 business days. Then it's the carrier's transit time for the speed you choose: Standard is 3–5 business days, Express 2 business days, Overnight the next business day. A speed only appears if a carrier will actually do it for your address, and you get a tracking link by email the moment the label is bought.

Is my shipment insured?

Every shipment worth more than $500 is insured automatically for its value. It isn't an extra you tick — the insurance fee is already included in the shipping rate you see at checkout.

Why do projection screens ship by freight?

A projection screen travels flat and long, and a parcel carrier's handling is what damages them. So every screen — and the two kits that include one, the Projection Starter and the Media Room Package — ships by freight, never as a parcel. Within 80 miles of Dallas–Fort Worth we deliver it with installation; anywhere else, checkout offers a "Request a freight quote" form with your cart and address filled in, and we come back with a delivered price.

Do kits cost less than buying the parts separately?

Yes — every kit is 10% off the total of its parts. The saving shows on the kit page, in the cart and at checkout, and it applies while every part of the kit is in your cart. Discount codes don't apply to kits, since they already carry the kit saving.

What happens if something I ordered is out of stock?

We contact you. You choose between an equivalent alternative at the original price or a full refund for that item — we never substitute without asking.

Why is your camera more expensive than the same-looking one online?

Because it usually isn't the same camera. The housing can be identical while the sensor, lens, low-light behavior, and firmware support are not. We choose equipment we can stand behind for years and service locally, and we'll always tell you plainly what the cheaper look-alike gives up.

Orders & your account

Do I need an account to buy?

No. Checkout works as a guest — you give an email and phone for the confirmation and tracking, and that's it.

How do I sign in? What's my password?

There's no password. Enter your email on the sign-in page and we send a one-time link that signs you in. It works once and expires after 15 minutes.

I ordered as a guest. Can I see that order in an account later?

Yes. Sign in with the same email address and every order placed with it appears in your account — but only after you've used the sign-in link, so nobody can claim your orders by typing your email.

How do I track my order?

Use Track an order with your order number and the email you ordered with — no account needed — or open the order in your account. Both show the same timeline: order placed, payment confirmed, packed, shipped, each carrier scan, out for delivery and delivered, with the carrier's tracking link and estimated delivery date.

What does "Save my details for next time" do?

Tick it at checkout and, once you've paid, we email you a sign-in link. Use it and your account is created with that order already in it, so next time your details and addresses are ready.

What's in my account?

Your orders with their status and tracking, the order totals and delivery address, a link to your card receipt from Stripe, any return requests, your saved addresses, and your contact details and email preferences.

What emails will I get?

A confirmation when you order, a shipping email with tracking when it leaves, and a delivery email when the carrier reports it delivered. If you requested installation, Aji calls to arrange the walkthrough.

Warranty & returns

When does my warranty start?

On the date you receive the product — the carrier's delivery date for a shipped order, or the day it's handed over for a local delivery or installation. Your order page shows "Warranty from" that date once the order is delivered.

How long is the warranty?

Hardware carries the manufacturer's own warranty for its stated term — it's on every product page. Capture Advance recorders and cameras carry 36 months, WD Purple surveillance drives three years. Installation we do is covered separately by our 12-month workmanship guarantee from the day we finish.

What's the return policy on hardware?

Unopened, unused hardware goes back within 30 days of delivery, in its original packaging and with a return authorization from us. Opened but undamaged and resalable hardware can also go back in that window, with a 15% restocking fee. Anything installed, terminated, configured for your property, or powered up and written to can't come back. Full terms on our Shipping & Returns page.

Something arrived damaged or wrong. What do I do?

Tell us within 5 days of delivery. If an item arrives faulty, damaged or incorrect, the restocking terms don't apply — we replace it or refund it, and we pay the shipping both ways.

How do I start a return?

Use the returns page with your order number and the email on the order, or choose "Request a return" on the order in your account. You get an RMA number straight away; wait for us to approve the return before you send anything, and write the RMA number on the box.

How are refunds paid?

To the card you paid with, within ten business days of the returned item reaching us. Card refunds then usually take a few business days to show, depending on your bank.

Your hardware, your choice

Can I supply my own hardware and have you install it?

Happy to. Bring the cameras, recorder, speakers, or gear you already own — if it's standards-compatible and in good shape, we'll design around it and install it properly. We'll tell you plainly at the walkthrough if a specific piece is holding the system back, but there's no obligation to buy your hardware from us.

Can I buy hardware from you without installation?

Yes. Anything in the shop is real hardware you can buy and take delivery of on its own — a single camera, a recorder, a drive, a speaker, a full kit. Professional installation is an option you add only if you want it, never forced.

Can I install it myself?

Absolutely. Everything in the shop is yours to install. Each product page gives an honest read on how hard the self-install actually is, and where having us do it is worth it — usually hidden cable, overlapping camera coverage, or anything going inside walls.

Can I mix hardware I already own with new hardware from you?

Yes. A new recorder with the cameras you already have, or new speakers on your existing wiring, is a common job. We check compatibility at the walkthrough so the parts actually work together.

Do I have to buy installation to get a walkthrough?

No. Walkthroughs are free and carry no obligation, whether you end up buying hardware from us, bringing your own, or deciding not to go ahead.

If I add installation to an order, what am I charged?

Installation isn't charged today. Aji quotes it after a free walkthrough. Adding it is a request, not a purchase — you pay for the hardware at checkout and nothing for installation until you've approved Aji's quote.

Hours & after-hours work

What are your standard hours?

Our standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 6:00pm. Work outside those hours is available for a fixed after-hours fee, subject to availability — see below.

Do you charge extra for early mornings or evenings?

Weekday work before 8:00am or after 6:00pm adds a fixed $150 fee, subject to availability. Standard-hours work carries no time surcharge.

Do you work weekends?

Yes, subject to availability. Weekend work adds a fixed $250 fee.

Is an out-of-hours slot guaranteed?

No — out-of-hours and weekend windows are subject to availability. Pick your preferred window when you book and Aji confirms what's possible on the call.

Where will I see an after-hours fee?

Before you commit, every time: beside the window in the booking form and at the checkout installation step, and again in your confirmation email. Never as a surprise afterward.

When is an after-hours fee paid?

With the installation, after the walkthrough. It isn't part of anything you pay online at checkout.

Coverage & booking

What areas do you cover?

Installation is standard anywhere within 80 miles of the core Dallas–Fort Worth cities. Hardware ships to all 50 states and DC wherever you are.

Do you install more than 80 miles from DFW?

Yes, for jobs of 1,800 sq ft or more. Travel and accommodation are quoted per job, because they vary with the job — tell us the property size when you book and Aji will talk it through, even if you're under the minimum.

Can my order be delivered with the installation?

Within 80 miles of Dallas–Fort Worth, yes — add installation and the hardware can arrive with your technician, with no separate shipping charge. Further out, the hardware ships by carrier and installation is quoted as a separate job.

What happens after I order with installation requested?

You pay for the hardware only at checkout. Installation isn't charged today. Aji quotes it after a free walkthrough. Once we've seen the space you get the installation quote, and you pay for installation separately, only after you've approved it.

How long does a walkthrough take?

Usually under an hour for a home. We look at the space, talk through what you want it to do, and take the measurements a real quote needs. Bigger or multi-area jobs can run longer — we'll tell you what to expect when we book it.

How do I book a walkthrough?

Use the booking form — it takes a minute — or call (972) 654-6973. Walkthroughs are free.

Installation & service

How long does a typical install take?

A few cameras and a recorder is often a single day. Whole-property coverage or structured cabling can run several days depending on the property. We give you a realistic window at the walkthrough — never a guess over the phone.

What network cabling do you install?

Network and data cabling in Cat6 and Cat6A copper — pulled, terminated, labeled and tested to a central rack or panel, with PoE switching and Wi-Fi access points where they're needed.

More in our guide: Cat6 or Cat6A? Wiring a home for Wi-Fi, cameras and TVs

Do you install fiber?

No. Our network work is data and Cat cable; we don't install optical fiber.

Do you work on systems you didn't install?

Yes. We take on service and repair for systems we didn't originally install, after a walkthrough to understand what's there. Sometimes the honest answer is that a system is worth replacing rather than repairing, and we'll tell you.

What happens if a camera fails in year two?

The manufacturer's warranty covers the hardware for its term — 36 months on the Capture Advance recorders and cameras, three years on a WD Purple drive — and our own workmanship guarantee covers the installation for 12 months from the day we finish. Contact us with your order reference and we tell you plainly which one applies before we do anything. Full terms on our Warranty page.

How is installation priced?

Installation isn't charged today. Aji quotes it after a free walkthrough. It depends on the property — walls, ceilings, distances and the number of devices — so we don't publish a figure we would have to change once we've seen the space.

Systems & equipment

What brands do you carry?

Capture Advance recorders and cameras, WD Purple surveillance drives, Proficient Audio Systems speakers and subwoofers, Elite Screens projection screens, Eaton wall plates, and a W Box Technologies professional monitor. Mounts are sold on their specifications. Every product page names its maker and model.

Can you work with cameras or equipment I already own?

Often, yes. If your gear is standards-compatible and in good shape, we design around it rather than forcing a rip-and-replace. We'll be honest at the walkthrough if a specific piece is holding the system back.

Are you locked to one manufacturer?

No. We're vendor-neutral by design — IPVM-trained to judge equipment on the evidence, not the brochure. We pick what fits your building and budget rather than whatever we're incentivized to push.

Does a kit include the cable?

No — cable lengths depend on your building, so every kit page lists what you'll also need in plain language instead of letting you find out after delivery.

Which recorder goes with which camera?

Network (IP) cameras record on an NVR; HD analog cameras record on a DVR. Each recorder also has a channel count and a maximum resolution it records at — the kits are matched on all three, and each product page lists what it needs.

More in our guide: IP cameras vs. analog HD cameras: which is right for your property?

Do you offer home automation and antennas?

Yes, as installation services — book a walkthrough and we'll scope the job. Products for them aren't in the online shop yet.
